Choosing a Sink That Works With Your Countertop
The sink is decided before the countertop is cut, not after. The model determines the size of the cut-out, how the reveal is polished, and whether the faucet holes are drilled in the stone or in the sink deck. Bringing the sink to templating — or buying it with the tops — avoids the most common cause of rework.
Undermount
Mounted beneath the stone so the countertop edge forms the visible rim. Crumbs wipe straight into the bowl and there is no rim to trap grime. This is the standard choice for quartz, granite, porcelain and quartzite tops.
Top-mount (drop-in)
Sits in the opening with a visible rim resting on the surface. Easier to retrofit and usually the more economical option.
Farmhouse / apron front
The front face of the bowl is exposed and the cabinet is modified to carry it. It needs planning at the cabinet stage, not at templating.
Materials we stock
- Porcelain (fireclay): farm and vanity models — glossy, easy to clean, resistant to staining.
- 304-grade stainless steel: corrosion-resistant, available in single and double bowl and in workstation configurations.
Bowl Configuration, Gauge and Reveal
- Single vs double bowl. A single large bowl handles sheet pans and roasting trays; a double bowl separates washing from rinsing. Most new kitchens we template choose a single deep bowl.
- Steel gauge. Lower numbers mean thicker steel. Thicker gauge sinks are quieter under running water and resist denting.
- Reveal. On undermount installations the reveal can be positive (stone overhangs the bowl), zero (flush) or negative. We set this at templating — it changes how easy the rim is to wipe.
- Faucet holes. Drilled in the stone for undermount installations. Tell us the faucet model and whether you want a soap dispenser, air switch or filtered water tap before fabrication.

Sink FAQs
Should I buy the sink before the countertop is templated?
Yes. The cut-out is made to the exact model, so the sink needs to be on site or specified before fabrication begins.
Can an undermount sink be fitted to any countertop material?
Undermount sinks suit quartz, granite, porcelain and quartzite. They are not recommended for laminate, which has an exposed particle-board core at the cut edge.
Are stainless steel sinks noisy?
Thicker gauge steel and factory-applied sound-dampening pads make a noticeable difference. Ask us which models in the catalogue include dampening.
How are faucet holes drilled?
For undermount installations we drill them in the stone during fabrication, using the faucet specification to set spacing and diameter.
